The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India has compiled the data for the export of oilmeals for the month of November 2018. It was provisionally reported at 3,11,739 tonne compared to 3,69,522 tonne in November 2017. In other words, it was down by 16 per cent.
The overall export between April and November 2018 is reported at 20,43,282 tonne compared to 18,55,558 tonne during the same period of last year (i e up by 10 per cent). The export of rapeseed meal is sharply increased to 7,45,901 (3,92,463) tonne in first eight months, almost doubled mainly exported to South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand. The Ministry of Commerce, Government of India/Export Inspection Council of India (EIC) stated that China will resume import of rapeseed meal from India.
The five units already approved by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China and GACC (formerly AQSIQ) will able to resume the export of rapeseed meal to China once their registration with the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) is done, which is a cumbersome process and takes a long time.
In case of the resumption of export of soybean meal from India to China, it may a longer time as the Chinese GACC team is likely to visit during current month to inspect and approve the units. Prior to the ban in 2012, China used to import nearly half-a-million tonne of oilmeals, viz rapeseed meal (3.5 to 4 lakh tonne) and soybean meal (one lakh tonne) from India. Also, the Iranian market has opened up for Indian soybean meal. During the current year, between April and November 2018, about two lakh tonne of soybean meal shipped against just 23,000 tonne last year, supporting the export of oilmeals from India.
